The following is an extract of an article published by the Woking News and Mail in its end of year review ...

2000

Twenty-five years after the M3 was built, Chobham was finally to be given a piece of land to make up for the common land it lost to the motorway.  The fields to the south of Round Pond were earmarked.

The Sun pub was bought by twenty villagers, rather than let it join an Italian restaurant chain.  The consortium received an award for community action.

Community groups appealed to the county council after the decision to sell the Chobham Community Centre to a property developer.

Chobham Museum opened after 18 month of hard work.  The museum is sited in the old public toilets on Benham's Corner.

6000 was stolen from Chobham Post Office.  Three men dressed in black with balaclavas, threatened staff with a hammer.

In November Chobham was bought to a standstill by unseasonably early floods.
